This exceptionally rare expression of Jefferson’s Bourbon has been bottled in extremely limited quantities.Only 10,000 bottles have been produced worldwide for this release making it a collectable classic.
The bourbon, which started as a straight Kentucky Bourbon whiskey, was first fully matured for 10 years in the traditional style of aging in new charred American Oak barrels. From there, the Bourbon was dumped from the original barrels and transferred to brand new charred oak barrels and aged an additional 6 years. The result of being aged in new charred oak twice during the maturation caused the Bourbon retain the bright notes found in a classic Bourbon but also adds a depth of flavor and complexity that can be gained only through long years of extra aging in new barrels.
Jefferson’s Presidential Select 16 Year Old Twin Oak Straight Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Caramel, Vanilla, Baking Spice, Toasted Sugar, Candy.
Palate: Caramel, Baking Spices, Buttery Toffee, Hint of Caramelized sugar.
Finish: Full, robust flavor with a smooth coating on the tongue. The dry finish is strong with a brilliant and complex spice that is more sweet than peppery. The Kentucky Hug is warm but not burning.
Distillery Information
Founded in 1997, Jefferson’s is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian. They were continuing a family tradition that goes back to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the “production and sales of spirituous liquors.” To personify the brand, they chose Thomas Jefferson—known for his curiosity and experimental spirit. This is a mindset to which Trey has dedicated himself, pushing the boundaries of the definition of bourbon. Upholding tradition, yet always discovering new possibilities.
